We’ve donated to the Association for Abandoned Animals to help abandoned animals find a forever home on the Blockchain Island
At OKEx, we believe the financial space and commercial world deserve a new life, and so do abandoned pets.
OKEx takes its social corporate responsibility seriously and we are always looking into ways of having an impact on all aspects of society, economically, socially, and environmentally. As one of the first blockchain corporates established in Malta, we have been looking for opportunities to give back to the Blockchain Island who extended a very warm welcome to us when we decided to redomicile.
And the chance came to the relocation of Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA), a non-governmental organization that provides cares and shelters to abandoned pets in Malta.
Giving abandoned pets in Malta a shelter
As part of our CSR program, we have identified a worthy cause following setting up our office with the help of Moira Delia, a Maltese television presenter, actress, and also a well-known animal welfare activist.
In 2018, the AAA had to move to new premises and the Maltese government provided a leased property in Ħal Far, a stone throw away from the Malta Freeport. A considerable amount of fund was required to convert the premises into a shelter that follows international best practices and guidelines set by the Malta Animal Welfare Act.
With a team of animal lovers committed to excellence in every aspect of the business, the OKEx management and Malta team decided to step in and sponsor the association to finish the building costs.
After months of work, we were very thrilled to witness that the new AAA building and dog sanctuary were inaugurated last Sunday, May 12, 2019, by Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta.
We will continue to give back
As an industry leader in the blockchain space, we are very pleased and honored to be able to give back to society. We will look into more ways we can expand our relationship with the AAA and other different charities, because at OKEx, we feel obliged to make better changes to everyone’s life, including animals’.
About the Association for Abandoned Animals
The Association for Abandoned Animals Sanctuary houses 95 dogs, all abandoned and mostly come from the streets. Their mission is to shelter these poor abandoned animals, treat them for any injuries or illness that they may have, and then place them for adoption. There is never a time limit for how long a dog can remain in their care.
Their adoption sessions open every Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 14:00. If you wish to volunteer, you may join them every day from 09:00 to 14:00, including Saturday and Sunday.
